Events

MCGS’s purpose includes “To teach genealogy research methods, documentation standards, and other skills relevant to genealogy research.”  Programs and Workshops are offered to assist individuals in gaining genealogy knowledge. Organized Road Trips to Archives and Libraries provide a lower cost option for researching at locations outside Muskegon County. 

Programs are free to the public and are held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at Hackley Public Library, Lower Level, 315 W. Western Ave, Muskegon, MI 49440 at 10:30 AM.  Attendance is available onsite and via Zoom (for members). Use the FRONT DOOR ONLY! There is parking on the street, and handicap access to the front door only. Use the stairs or elevator to the lower level. *No Programs are held in the months of July and December.

Workshops are free for members only.  MCGS conducts workshops for Genetic Genies (DNA), a Writer’s Workshop, and Genealogy Step by Step. They are held once per month 8 times per year (Feb thru May, & Aug thru Nov).  See the schedule below for regular date/time for each. Road Trips are provided for members only.  MCGS visits the Archives of Michigan twice per year (the first Saturday in April and August), and the Allen County Genealogy Library in Ft. 	October Program Saturday, October 18, 2025 @ 10:30 AM "Meet My Ancestor”  Speakers: Members of MCGS    Celebrating Family History Month: “Meet My Ancestor!” Presented to you by members of MCGS. That’s right, you read that correctly, the members of MCGS will be introducing you to one of their favorite ancestors. So come and join us for a morning of celebrating our vastly diverse heritage. Presentations will be given in a variety of formats, so be prepared to step back in time to eras long gone but not forgotten. We look forward to seeing you there!
