History

Bailey contained about 300 inhabitants in 1881 and was doing nearly as much business as Casnovia.  It had a stave and heading mill, two general stores, drug store, hardware store, grocery store, meat market, blacksmith shop, one Lodge of Good Templars and Knights of Honor, and two church organizations.

There were many Benevolent Orders, some of them with their officers are listed below.

Casnovia Lodge, I.O. of O.F.; Edward Farnham, Milan L. Squeir, James H. Shaw, Martin Frank, Albert Norris, Adam Hizer, Robert J. Side, Jacob Holben, William W. Fenton, Hugh Kelly, Benjamin Holben, Nelson J. Crigger, E. Lynch, and H.J. Crosby.  Trent Lodge, I.O. of O.F.; George Rupp, H. Avery, V. Sinz, David Leichty, and George Webb.  Also Lucius Pickett, Warren Carpenter, E. Conklin and Noah F. Fales.

Tyrone Grange, consisting of members partly from Kent and partly from Muskegon Counties met on Section 25.  Included were E.E. Haywood, F.A. Bails, F.N. Westcott, William H. Twiss, Uriah Chubb and M.J. Bonner.

Trent Grange, P. of H. listed the following:  Nathan Whitney, Thomas J.G. Bolt, George W. Bolt, Tracy Woodware, Joseph Minnick, Orrin Whitney, and Hermas Gilbert.

Knights of Honor, located at Bailey included:  John A. Spring, Daniel B. Galentine, John S. Ingram, Charles Killen, Orvin Headly, Albert Morse and Jacob Probasco.

Good Templars Lodge located at Bailey listed:  Miles Chubb, Mrs. Louisa Thurston, Mrs. Mary L. VanDusen, J.S. Miller, and Lewis Babcock.
