History

This cemetery started as a Lutheran Church cemetery and after the church site was moved further north the little cemetery was more or less abandoned.  The only stones surviving are a foot stone with the initials G.A. and an obelisk with the following inscriptions.  On the base:  Children of Jacob and Mary M. JOHNSON.  1st Side:  Gust Anderson – 20 years 7 months, 5-Sep-1885; 2nd side:  JNES M.  B 1884 (This is probably a daughter who died February 12, 1884 at 13 days of age.  3rd Side:  J. Hildebrant-Born 1872 (Probably Jacob H., age 13 in the 1884 census); Jlva M., Born 1881 (No child of this age is listed in the 1884 census).

Jacob Johnson was born in Sweden ca 1841 and came to America ca 1867.  He married Mary D. (?) who was born in Sweden ca 1848 and came to America ca 1868.  In 1884 this couple had the following children:  Ida M. age 14; Jacob H. age 13; Joseph H. age 8; Julius H. age 5.  In 1894 the children included Ira 24; Herbert J. 18; Hildor J. 15; Joshua Clarence 7; Jasper A. 4; Edith I. 3; Albert U. 1.  A child born after 1894 was named Jess.  Edith died as a teenager.  There are more unmarked graves in the cemetery.  Jacob Johnson is said to be buried there, his wife Mary is buried in Roy, New Mexico.
