Histoy
I.C. Horton was a prosperous general agriculturist and extensive bee-keeper. He lived in Cedar Creek Township and owned the largest apiary in the county.
Mr. Horton, born October 10, 1834, in the Empire State, was the son of Henry and Julia Moore Horton, both native of New York. The family, of German origin, came early to this country and settled in Dutchess County, New York. Both grandfathers served in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
He was one of 8 children, one of whom, Alonzo, resides on the old homestead. He arrived in Michigan in 1869 and when he was 24 married Lucy E. Babcock, daughter of Rufus & Almira Walker Babcock. They adopted and reared a niece, Emma E. Hulshopa.
Mrs. Horton attended the Free-Will Baptist Church in Twin Lake. Mr. Horton was Justice of the Peace of Cedar Creek Township and was elected Town Clerk, although he did not accept the offer.
