BATCHELDER, Nathaniel
Obituary
The Forum  Whitehall, Michigan  29 August 1889  Page 1
LOCAL POINTERS  Nathaniel Batchelder died of old age at the farm residence of George Mills Saturday last, aged 94 years.  The funeral took place Sunday.

Will/Probate
7 November 1889  Page 1
The trial of the will contest over the will of the late Nathaniel Batchelter, of Montague township, has been in progress before Judge of Probate Aldrich this week, and a number of White Lakers have attended as witnesses.  Deceased left a will bequeathing his property, valued at about $2,000, to G. A. Whitbeck.  This is contested by the daughter of deceased, a Mrs. Hagerman, and also by George Miller and son who claim a prior will.  The old man was declared incompetent some time before his death and C. L. Streng was appointed guardian.  The claims of Whitbeck and the Millers are based on care taken of the old man during his life.  Mrs. Hagerman claims as heiress to his estate.  The case has taken all the week, and Mrs. Mary Holmes of Whitehall, is watching the outcome in order to make a claim as the widow of the deceased.
14 November 1889  Page 1  LOCAL POINTERS  The Batchelder will case is still hanging fire in the probate court in Muskegon.  28 November 1889  Page 1  LOCAL POINTERS  The proof and arguments are all in in the Batchelder will contest, and Probate Judge Aldrich will announce his decision on Saturday of this week.  5 December 1889  Page 1 In the Batchelder will case Judge Aldrich last Saturday decided not to admit the will to probate.  This defeats the claim of G. A. Whitbeck, the devisee of the will, and leaves the estate to the daughter of deceased.  Mr. Whitbeck talks of appealing the case.  After the will question is settled it is understood that Mrs. Mary Holmes, a relict of the decedent, will claim a share of the estate.  30 January 1890  Page 1  LOCAL POINTERS  The Batchelder will case, of Montague, which attracted so much attention in the probate court, will be appealed to the circuit court. 20 March 1890   Page 1  LOCAL POINTERS  Judge Aldrich has appointed Edward Leedom special administrator of the estate of Nathaniel D. Batchelder. 1, 8, & 15 May 1890  Page 4  Probate Order  .In  the matter of the estate of Nathaniel C.  Batchelder, deceased.  On reading and filing the petition duly verified of Mary Ann Batchelder, representing that she is widow of deceased and praying that an allowance for her support pending administration be made out of the personal property now in the hands of the Administrator.  Thereupon it is ordered that Monday the 19th day of May next at ten o'clock in the forenoon, at the Probate Office, in the City of Muskegon, be assigned for the hearing of said petition and that notice of said hearing be given to the persons interested in said estate, by causing a copy of this order to be published in the Whitehall Forum, a newspaper printed and circulated in said county of Muskegon for three successive weeks previous to said day of hearing. 5 June 1890  Page 1  LOCAL POINTERS  W. E. Osmun went to Kansas City this week to take W. H. Baker's testimony in the Batchelder will case.  When this matter has run the legal gauntlet what there is left of the Batchelder estate can be stuffed into a gnat's eye.  23 October 1890  Page 1  The Batchelder will case is still dragging its weary way along in the circuit court.

BEAN, Fannie (Mrs.) Obituary
Muskegon Enterprise, October 21, 1870
ANOTHER VICTIM - The dreaded weather, as might be expected, has produced another suicide.  But the unfortunate who has this time anticipated nature was a weary of life without the additional provocative of such superlatively suicidal surroundings.  Fannie Bean was not long ago a very pretty girl, and virtuous, too no doubt.  She has been married but her husband died about a year ago. Deprived of her natural protector, poor Fannie became engulfed in the maelstrom of social vice, and was soon whirled into the hotbed of immorality yclept Chicago, where on Sunday night, just before laying down to sleep in eternity, she penned the following heart-rending words:   TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Please write or telegraph to my father and mother.  It was mother's last request when I left her that, in case of sickness or anything, I should let her know.  She said that in such case she would come after me.  Oh, I want to be buried by my husband.       FANNIE BEAN   Address, Mary A. Bean, Muskegon, Mich.   The girl had been ailing for some time, and was in correspondingly low spirits.  Besides, it was evident that memories of the past were preying upon her, and, by degrees, consuming her.  The means of destruction adopted was poison -- a narcotic.  She was found dead in her room Monday morning by one of her companions in vice.  The coroner held an inquest of the victim of misfortune was complied with, and the corpse arrived in this city Wednesday for interment
